Kappa Sigma’s annual Mile in a Soldier’s Shoes event

Updated: May 12

Annually, Ashland University's Kappa Sigma fraternity hosts the Mile in a Soldier’s Shoes event to support homeless veterans and those in need. Participants, including fraternity members and community supporters, carry an extra 40 pounds to simulate the daily experiences of active-duty soldiers as they run a route starting and ending at the campus flagpole. Kayin McDonald, the philanthropy committee chair, emphasizes the event's role in honoring veterans' sacrifices. Kappa Sigma seeks sponsorships and donations for essential items like shoes and socks for veterans. Brien Conrad, board director for the foundation, highlights the importance of supporting veterans. The event is set for April 13, followed by a banquet at Mount Vernon Estates, which will be significantly larger this year and include high school seniors enlisting, along with a fundraising total announcement. More details are available on Kappa Sigma's Instagram and website.
