ASHLAND, OH—Ashland University senior Kayin McDonald is making a significant impact both on campus and beyond as a co-founder and leader of the In a Soldier’s Shoes Foundation.
The organization, originally rooted in Kappa Sigma’s philanthropic efforts, focuses on providing essential items such as shoes and socks to homeless and at-risk veterans and their families.
McDonald, who will graduate this May with seven majors, serves as vice president, chief development officer, and director of community engagement, helping lead fundraising efforts that have generated more than $100,000 to date.
What began as a campus initiative has rapidly expanded after identifying a need to better support local veterans, with the foundation now on pace to distribute thousands of essential items and raise up to $500,000 within a year.
The foundation’s signature event, “Mile in a Soldier’s Shoes,” continues to drive growth, with ruck marches now taking place across multiple universities in several states, connecting students directly with veterans.
In addition to expanding events, the organization is launching “Operation: Final Tour,” an initiative aimed at providing meaningful, once-in-a-lifetime experiences for terminally ill, disabled, and elderly veterans.
With continued momentum and plans for national expansion, In a Soldier’s Shoes remains focused on its mission to support veterans while growing its impact across communities.
The foundation encourages supporters to stay engaged and follow along as new initiatives and events continue to develop.
